What’s Happening – May 22, 2026
Some of you may have missed it, but while I was down sick recently (hurray for being sick, I guess?), I finally started a writing project that has been on my heart for quite a while: Theology Simplified.
The goal of the series is simple. I want to help ordinary Christians (that’s you!) think deeply about God without needing a seminary degree or a dictionary beside them. These are short, approachable articles aimed at keeping theology rooted in Scripture, centered on Christ, and written in everyday language. So far I’ve started working through topics like biblical revelation, biblical authority, and what it means that God is Creator, with many more to come. Subscribe over at RedeemerRomeo.com to get notified when I post new stuff like this.

At the same time, summer is already looking like it’s going to be busy in the best ways. Conferences, festivals, vacations, parties, baptisms, and all the beautiful chaos that comes with life together in the church. I’m thankful for a church family that loves being together and serving together.
But let me offer one gentle encouragement as the calendar fills up: don’t get so busy enjoying God’s gifts that you forget to rest in God Himself.
We are not machines built only to produce, travel, entertain, and hurry from one thing to the next. God, in His kindness, has woven rhythms of rest into creation itself. Sabbath is not merely about stopping work. It is about remembering that the world keeps spinning because God is faithful, not because we are frantic.
So enjoy the summer. Make memories. Take trips. Grill burgers. Sit by the pool. Laugh loudly. Stay up too late playing games with your kids. But also slow down long enough to pray, worship, open your Bible, gather with God’s people, and let your soul breathe again in the goodness of Christ. Busy seasons pass quickly. Don’t miss the Lord in the middle of them.

Online Giving
It’s easy for even the best intentions to get lost in the busyness of a Sunday morning, and sometimes what we planned to give simply slips through the cracks. One simple way to stay consistent in worshipful generosity is to give online through Redeemer Baptist Church online giving page, where you can give one time or set up monthly recurring donations. This allows your giving to remain faithful and intentional, not dependent on the distractions of a given week, but rooted in a steady rhythm of trust and stewardship as you support the work God is doing through our church.

The Bridge
Last week, we left Jonah sitting east of Nineveh in the shade of a dying plant, angry that God had shown mercy to people Jonah believed deserved judgment. It is one of the most uncomfortable endings in all of Scripture because the book closes with a question hanging in the air: should God not pity Nineveh, that great city filled with image bearers who do not know their right hand from their left?
Jonah wanted a God concerned primarily with Israel and his own comfort. Instead, he encountered the God who sees the nations, pursues the rebellious, and delights in showing mercy to sinners. The Lord cared about Jonah, but He also cared about sailors, pagan kings, violent cities, wandering children, and countless people far beyond the borders Jonah would have drawn for grace.
This week, we will finish our time in Jonah by lifting our eyes beyond Nineveh itself and looking at the missionary heart of God throughout Scripture. The story of Jonah has never merely been about one reluctant prophet or one wicked city. It has always been pointing us toward the God who sends good news into dark places and calls His people to join Him in that work.
And as we close Jonah, we will also begin turning our attention toward where we are headed next: the Gospel of Mark. Jonah ends with God’s compassion for the nations lingering in the air. Mark opens with the announcement that the King has come and His good news is going out immediately into the world. The mission of God does not stop at Nineveh, and it does not stop with us.

Kids and adults all share in this time as we sit under the same truth and fix our eyes on Christ together.
Breaking Bread Groups
Throughout the week, we gather in homes to discuss God’s Word and to pray for each other as we do life together. We currently have groups that meet on Sunday afternoons and Thursday nights. If you are interested in joining or starting a group, please talk to someone in leadership.
