What’s Happening – July 17, 2026
It is good to be home after a wonderful week away with Teresa, visiting her family in Virginia. We enjoyed the opportunity to rest, recharge, and spend meaningful time together. We also had the chance to visit Jamestown and the Yorktown battlefield, walking through some of the places where the earliest chapters of our nation’s history were written.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to get away and for praying for us while we traveled. Time away is refreshing, but it also makes me grateful to return to our church family and the work God has given us to do together.
This is a relatively quiet week on the church calendar, but there are three important reminders to keep in mind.
First, this week we will return to our regularly scheduled Wednesday evening programming. Dinner will be served at 6:00pm, followed by the children’s program at 6:30pm Our prayer meeting will begin once we have finished cleaning up from dinner, usually around 7:00pm
We will also continue offering the prayer meeting online for those who are unable to make the drive to the church that late on a weeknight. Whether you join us in person or online, I hope you will make plans to participate as we gather to pray for one another, our church, and our community.
Second, our Back to School Bash is coming up on Saturday, August 8, from 9:00am to noon. We are still collecting new backpacks and school supplies for the giveaway. Every backpack, notebook, pencil, and package of supplies will help us serve local families and show them the generosity and love of Christ.
Finally, we have decided to extend the registration deadline for our Upward Flag Football season to August 22. With school beginning on August 10, we hope the additional time will allow more families to hear about the program, settle into their new routines, and get their children signed up. Please help us spread the word and personally invite families who may be interested.
Upcoming Events
Food Pantry Needs
Our food pantry cupboards are beginning to look a little bare, and we would love your help restocking them. The pantry allows us to respond when families in our church and community find themselves facing an unexpected need.
While you are at the grocery store, or placing your next pickup/delivery order, please consider adding a few extra shelf-stable items. Canned vegetables, soups, pasta, rice, cereal, peanut butter, canned meat, boxed meals, and other basic staples are always helpful.
Even one or two additional items can make a meaningful difference when we all give together. Thank you for helping us keep the pantry ready to serve our neighbors with practical care and the love of Christ.

Back to School Bash – Saturday, August 8th – 9am-Noon
Mark your calendars! During the event, we will also be holding Flag Football evaluations, but the morning will include much more than that. We’ll have food, fun, and a backpack giveaway as we help families get ready for the new school year.
We would love your help making this a blessing to our community. We are collecting new backpacks and school supplies so that we can fill them and give them away during the event. Items like pencils, crayons, notebooks, folders, glue sticks, paper, and other basic classroom supplies would all be appreciated.

A Simple Way to Give Faithfully
Giving is one of the ways we worship the Lord, trust His provision, and support the ministry He has entrusted to our church. Of course, Sunday mornings can be full. Between conversations, children, serving, singing, listening, and getting out the door, it is easy for even good intentions to get crowded out. Through our online giving page, you can give a one-time gift or set up recurring monthly giving. This helps make generosity a steady and prayerful rhythm. Thank you for giving faithfully, generously, and joyfully as we seek to glorify Christ, cultivate holiness, and love generously together.

The Bridge
Last Sunday, Brother Mark reminded us from Isaiah 60:1–3 that God calls His people to arise and shine because His glory has risen upon them. The church does not produce its own light. We are not the source of the glory. We simply reflect the glory of the God who has drawn near to us.
That raises an important question: What happens when the glory and holiness of God enters a dark and broken world? Mark 1:21–28 gives us a vivid answer.
Jesus enters the synagogue in Capernaum and begins to teach. The people are immediately struck by His authority. He does not sound like someone merely repeating the opinions of others. He speaks as one who possesses authority in Himself.
Then an unclean spirit cries out from within a man: “I know who you are—the Holy One of God.” The darkness recognizes the light.

The unclean spirit knows that Jesus is not simply another teacher, prophet, or religious leader. He is the Holy One of God, and His presence means that the powers of darkness are being confronted. Jesus has not come merely to offer good advice. He has come to break chains, silence evil, and reclaim what sin has defiled.
This is the glory the church is called to reflect. We do not shine by drawing attention to ourselves. We shine by pointing to Jesus. We proclaim that the Holy One has come into the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome Him. We bear witness to His authority, His purity, His mercy, and His power to set captives free.
Isaiah says, “Arise, shine, for your light has come.” Mark shows us the Light Himself walking into the room. So, as we return to Mark’s Gospel this Sunday, we will see that when holiness enters the room, darkness may resist, but it cannot remain undisturbed.

Sunday Morning Bible Study and Worship
Sundays at 9:30am is our Bible Study hour. From children to adults, each class is focused on helping us grow in understanding of God’s word and encouraging one another to live out our faith.
Then at 10:45am, we come together for corporate worship as one body. Our aim is simple: to humble ourselves before the throne of Jesus our King and to joyfully worship Him side by side as families. Kids and adults all share in this time as we sit under the same truth and fix our eyes on Christ together.
Breaking Bread Groups
Throughout the week, we gather in homes to discuss God’s Word and to pray for each other as we do life together. We currently have groups that meet on Sunday afternoons, as well as Tuesday and Thursday nights. If you are interested in joining or starting a group, please talk to someone in leadership.
At Redeemer Baptist Church our mission is to Glorify Jesus by Growing in Holiness and Loving Generously. Please leave a quick Google review and like or follow us on social media. It’s a small thing that helps more people in our community find us.
