Somehow, September is almost behind us, and it feels like the much-fabled Florida fall may finally be trying to make an appearance. The mornings are a little cooler, the evenings are a little easier to enjoy, and October is coming with plenty of reasons for us to gather together.

The month ahead is full without feeling frantic. We will take care of some important church business as we prepare for 2027, celebrate and support ministries beyond our own walls, gather with sister churches from around the association, and then turn toward one of the biggest Sundays of our year as Redeemer celebrates 116 years of God’s faithfulness. We will close out the month with a bonfire, games, and a Family Fun Night that should (prayerfully) feel even more like fall.

And all of that comes alongside the ordinary rhythms that keep shaping our life together week after week: Fourth Watch, Breaking Bread Groups, Ladies Bible Study, prayer, fellowship, and the steady work of following Jesus together. There is a lot coming in October, so keep reading for the details and go ahead and mark a few dates on the calendar.

Upcoming Events

Maguire State Missions Offering

Every September, Florida Baptists join together for the Maguire State Mission Offering. This year’s theme is “Immeasurably More,” and every dollar given through the offering goes directly toward planting new churches in Florida through Send Network Florida. This Sunday will be the last Sunday to bring your gifts for this important offering.

Florida is growing rapidly, and every new neighborhood, apartment complex, and community represents people who need to hear the good news of Jesus. We may never meet the church planters or sit in the churches our gifts help launch, but we can stand beside them through prayer and generous giving. The statewide goal is $1 million, and every dollar collected goes straight to church planters.

Upward Flag Football Games Continue!

The season is in full swing, and these kids are playing hard and putting on a great show. Come out on Saturdays at 8:30am, grab a spot on the sideline, and help us cheer on the kids as we make this a special season for these families.

Practices will continue on Thursday evenings at 5:30 PM. Please pray for our players, coaches, families, and volunteers as we use this season to encourage kids, build relationships with families, and point them toward Christ.

Make a Connection Saturday

With Upward games happening on Saturday morning, we’re not doing our normal mens and ladies breakfasts, but we want to encourage you to make a connection with someone from the church that you haven’t had the chance to connect with.

Annual Business Meeting

On Sunday, October 11th at 6pm, we will gather for our Annual Business Meeting. This is an important opportunity for us to look together at the life and stewardship of Redeemer Baptist Church as we prepare for another year of ministry.

We will review our current financial picture, walk through the proposed 2027 budget, and talk about how our resources are being used to support the ministries and mission of the church. Just as importantly, this meeting gives us a chance to reflect on some of the ways we have seen God at work among us over the past year. Budgets and financial reports are not just numbers on a page; they tell part of the story of what we value, where we are serving, and how we are seeking to be faithful with what God has entrusted to us.

The Path of Citrus County

The Path is a Christian rescue mission serving men, women, and families in our area. Their work goes beyond providing a safe place to sleep or a meal to eat. They seek to help people rebuild their lives through a Christ-centered environment, individualized support, life and job skills, recovery programs, and opportunities to develop the stability needed to move toward independent living. Christ is at the heart of their mission and their desire to see lives genuinely transformed.

The Path is also celebrating 25 years of ministry this year, and they will mark that milestone with their Harvest of Hope Banquet and Celebration on Thursday, October 15th at 6:00 PM. A table for 8 has already been purchased and there are 4 spots left for anyone interested in going. You can learn more about the Path and this event at https://www.pathofcitrus.org/

October is going to be a special month at Redeemer. This year marks the 116th anniversary of our church. Think about that for a moment. For more than a century, generations of believers have gathered here to sing, pray, hear the Word, baptize new believers, raise children, send missionaries, care for neighbors, and proclaim the same good news of Jesus Christ. Buildings have changed. Pastors have come and gone. Families have arrived, grown, moved away, and sometimes returned. But through all of it, God has remained faithful.

We have much to be thankful for. So as we enter October, we are going to spend six weeks in the Psalms building a theology of gratitude. Our new sermon series, Give Thanks: Six Psalms for a Grateful People, will help us consider not merely what we are thankful for, but why thanksgiving is such a fundamental part of the life of God’s people.

Give Faithfully

The Bridge

Last Sunday, the scribes accused Jesus of working by the power of Satan, and Jesus answered with the picture of a stronger man entering the strong man’s house, binding him, and carrying away what had been held captive. Jesus has not come to cooperate with the kingdom of darkness, but to overthrow it. The Stronger Man has come to rescue captives and bring them into His own household. And by the end of the passage, that household was pictured as a family gathered around Jesus, listening to Him, while his biological family stood outside convinced that Jesus was crazy.

But that leaves us with an important question. Why do people respond so differently to the same Jesus? The evidence was not different, the Jesus standing before them was not different. Yet some hardened themselves while others drew near. Last week we saw that the unforgivable sin is not a weakness in the cross, but the terrifying condition of a heart so hardened against Christ that it rejects the very One in whom forgiveness is found.

This week in Mark 4, We’re going to see an image of these responses in a famous parable of Jesus. His first word is simple: “Listen!” Then He tells a story about a sower scattering seed across four different kinds of ground. The seed does not change. The sower does not change. What changes is the soil that receives it. Some hearts are hard. Some responses are shallow. Some lives become so crowded by other loves that the Word is slowly choked. But in some, the Word takes root and produces a harvest far greater than anything visible at the beginning.

The most interesting part may be what happens after the story. The disciples do not understand it either. They are not “inside” because they have Jesus figured out. They are inside because their confusion sends them back to Jesus. They come closer and ask Him to teach them. Faith does not mean that we understand everything Jesus says; it means that when we do not understand, we keep coming to Him.

Weekly Life Together

Wednesday Night Dinner, Kids, and Prayer

Join us each Wednesday evening as we gather for a shared family meal and time together.

Sunday Morning Bible Study and Worship

Sundays at 9:30am is our Bible Study hour. From children to adults, each class is focused on helping us grow in understanding of God’s word and encouraging one another to live out our faith.

Then at 10:45am, we come together for corporate worship as one body. Our aim is simple: to humble ourselves before the throne of Jesus our King and to joyfully worship Him side by side as families. Kids and adults all share in this time as we sit under the same truth and fix our eyes on Christ together. Check out this playlist of some of the music that we will sing together in worship.

Breaking Bread Groups

Throughout the week, we gather in homes to discuss God’s Word and to pray for each other as we do life together. We currently have groups that meet on Sunday afternoons, as well as Tuesday and Thursday nights. If you are interested in joining or starting a group, please talk to someone in leadership.

Fourth Watch – Fridays – 0400

Every Friday morning at 4 AM, men gather for Fourth Watch, a time to seek the Lord before the noise and responsibilities of the day begin.

There’s no breakfast, no entertainment, and no elaborate program. We’ll open the Bible, talk honestly, and spend serious time in prayer for four things. For the Lord’s guidance, for our own hearts, for one another, and for our families. Bring your Bible. Come looking for the Lord.

Fourth Watch is open not only to the men of Redeemer, but to Christian men throughout our community who want brothers who will encourage them, challenge them, and help them keep watch over the things God has entrusted to them.
