What’s Happening – June 12, 2026
This Saturday (a.k.a. tomorrow), we will have a booth at the Williston Watermelon Festival. I would love to see a bunch of our families come out to have some free watermelon and to meet and pray for some of our neighbors as we share information about our upcoming Upward Flag Football program starting in August.

Online Giving
It’s easy for even the best intentions to get lost in the busyness of a Sunday morning, and sometimes what we planned to give simply slips through the cracks. One simple way to stay consistent in worshipful generosity is to give online through Redeemer Baptist Church online giving page, where you can give one time or set up monthly recurring donations. This allows your giving to remain faithful and intentional, not dependent on the distractions of a given week, but rooted in a steady rhythm of trust and stewardship as you support the work God is doing through our church.

The Bridge
Last week we began this new sermon series with Mark 1:1: “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” And we said that Mark does not begin with advice, religious inspiration, or a vague spiritual encouragement. He begins with an announcement. Good news has come. Jesus is the Christ. Jesus is the Son of God. The King has arrived.

Also, many of you know that earlier this week, Teresa and I were in Orlando for the Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting. And first, I want to say thank you. Thank you for praying for us. Thank you for caring about the wider work of the churches that we partner with. Thank you for being the kind of church that does not only think about what is happening inside our own walls, but also prays for the faithfulness of other churches, missionaries, seminaries, ministries, and leaders.
It was encouraging in many ways. It was encouraging to see churches from all over the country, and really from around the world, gathered together because we believe the gospel is still good news. It was encouraging to see missionaries being sent, churches being planted, ministers being trained, children being cared for, and the gospel going forward. And it was a reminder to me that we are not alone. We are one local church in one small place, but we are part of something much larger than ourselves.
But one of the things that always strikes me about the Southern Baptist Convention is the word we use for the people who attend and vote. We do not call them delegates. We call them messengers. That is intentional. A messenger is sent by someone else. A messenger carries a message that is not his own. A messenger does not have the authority to invent a new message, soften the message, hide the message, or make himself the center of attention.
And that will be a helpful word for us this Sunday. Because before Mark shows us Jesus preaching, healing, casting out demons, calling disciples, calming storms, forgiving sins, and going to the cross, he first shows us a messenger. John the Baptist is the promised messenger. He is the voice crying in the wilderness. He is the one sent ahead of the King. His calling is not to gather attention to himself, but to prepare the way for Christ.
Now, John is unique. None of us are John the Baptist. None of us are the promised forerunner of the Messiah in the way that John was. But John does show us what faithful messenger looks like. He does not invent the message. He receives it from God’s Word. He does not flatter people in their sin. He calls them to repentance because the Lord is coming. He does not make himself central. He points away from himself to the One who is mightier than he is.
And that is what we want to be as a church. We want to be faithful messengers. Not flashy. Not self-important. Not always chasing whatever is new. Not making the church about our preferences, our name, our platform, or our comfort. We want to be faithful to the message God has given us. We want to point to Christ.

Weekly Life Together
Tuesday Night Bible Study
Join us on Tuesday nights from 6-7pm as we explore how to study the Bible with clarity, confidence, and joy. Whether you are brand new to Scripture or have been reading for years, this class will help us ask good questions, see how the Bible fits together as one story fulfilled in Christ, and respond faithfully to God’s Word.
You can also find a collection of resources for the class here.
Wednesday Night Services will Resume on July 22!
Even though we aren’t meeting for dinner and the children’s program, we still want to focus on Prayer. There will be no prayer meeting this week (because of the Convention), but through the Summer and anytime, you can Submit your prayer requests and join the Prayer Team.
Sunday Morning Bible Study and Worship
Sundays at 9:30am is our Bible Study hour. From children to adults, each class is focused on helping us grow in understanding of God’s word and encouraging one another to live out our faith.
Then at 10:45am, we come together for corporate worship as one body. Our aim is simple: to humble ourselves before the throne of Jesus our King and to joyfully worship Him side by side as families. Kids and adults all share in this time as we sit under the same truth and fix our eyes on Christ together.
Breaking Bread Groups
Throughout the week, we gather in homes to discuss God’s Word and to pray for each other as we do life together. We currently have groups that meet on Sunday afternoons and Thursday nights. If you are interested in joining or starting a group, please talk to someone in leadership.
