What’s Happening – May 29, 2026
This Sunday is going to be a special day in the life of our church family. We will celebrate Baptism, rejoicing with those who are publicly proclaiming that they have died with Christ and been raised to walk in newness of life. Baptism is always a beautiful picture of the gospel, and it is a joy for the whole church to gather around these brothers and sisters as they confess Christ before us.

After the service, we will also enjoy our Fifth Sunday Dinner on the Grounds. Now, we know part of the reason we do this is because we are country folks, and country folks love to eat. But there is also something deeply biblical about the people of God gathering around a shared table. In the New Testament, the church often shared full meals where believers came together in fellowship, joy, generosity, and worship. The New Testament refers to these shared meals as “love feasts” in Jude 12, and we see the early church regularly gathering for fellowship, the breaking of bread, and shared meals in places like Acts 2:42–46 and 1 Corinthians 11:17–34.
These meals were more than food. They were a living picture of the fellowship we have in Christ and a small preview of the coming marriage supper of the Lamb, when all God’s people will feast together in His kingdom.
So bring a dish, bring your appetite, and come ready to celebrate. We will gather around the waters of baptism and then around the table, proclaiming together that the grace of Christ is abundant, His people are family, and the feast of the kingdom is still to come.

Online Giving
It’s easy for even the best intentions to get lost in the busyness of a Sunday morning, and sometimes what we planned to give simply slips through the cracks. One simple way to stay consistent in worshipful generosity is to give online through Redeemer Baptist Church online giving page, where you can give one time or set up monthly recurring donations. This allows your giving to remain faithful and intentional, not dependent on the distractions of a given week, but rooted in a steady rhythm of trust and stewardship as you support the work God is doing through our church.

The Bridge
Last week, we came to the end of Jonah, but Jonah does not really give us the kind of ending we might expect. The prophet does not ride off into the sunset. He does not celebrate the mercy of God reaching people. Instead, Jonah sits outside the city, angry, while God asks one final question: “Should not I pity Nineveh, that great city?”
That question does not get answered in the book because it is meant to be answered in us. Should God not pity our neighbors? Should God not pity our city? Should God not pity the nations? Jonah leaves us staring at the wideness of God’s mercy and the narrowness of our own hearts.
This Sunday, we are going to stand in the doorway between Jonah and Mark. Jonah ends by showing us the unfinished task in front of us. Mark begins by announcing the good news that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, has come. The King has stepped onto the scene, proclaiming, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
But before we rush from one book to the next, we need to pause and ask: what does this mean for us as a local church? This week, from 2 Corinthians 5:14–21, we will ask how that calling takes shape in light of the mercy of God, the coming of Christ, and the mission He has entrusted to His church.
Paul tells us that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. He tells us that God has reconciled us to Himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. Then he gives the church this remarkable identity: “We are ambassadors for Christ.”
That means the church is not a waiting room where we simply sit around until judgment day. The church is a kingdom outpost. An embassy in foreign territory. A visible people who belong to the King and carry His message into the world. And this Sunday, that message will be made visible as we celebrate baptism. Baptism proclaims that someone belongs to Jesus. It pictures that they have died with Christ and have been raised with Him to walk in newness of life. It reminds the whole church that the gospel is not theory. God is still saving sinners. Christ is still making new creations. The King is still gathering citizens for His kingdom.
