What’s Happening – October 2, 2026
October has arrived, and it feels like the right time to slow down and notice the goodness of God. The weather seems like it is beginning to get the memo that it is fall, and there are signs of a new season all around us. Even my Gators are doing their part to encourage a spirit of thanksgiving this year. With this encouraging start, I wonder if we should just enjoy this blessing quietly before someone notices and takes it away.
The psalmist says, “It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to your name, O Most High” (Psalm 92:1). Gratitude is more than noticing that life happens to be going well. It is learning to recognize the faithfulness of God in every season. Some blessings arrive loudly and are easy to celebrate. Others are quiet and it is only later that we realize that God was at work long before we could see what He was doing. Either way, thanksgiving teaches us to look beyond the gift to the Giver and say, “The Lord has been good to us.”
That seems especially appropriate as we enter October together. This month we will celebrate 116 years of God’s faithfulness to our church, and in the weeks ahead we will spend time in the Psalms learning what it means to become a genuinely grateful people. There is much for which to give thanks: Christ has saved us, He has given us one another, and He is still at work among us in ways both seen and unseen. So as October begins, take a moment to look around, give thanks to the Lord, and then take a look below at some of the ways we can worship, serve, and grow together this month.

Four Upward Flag Football Games Left!
The season is in full swing, and these kids are playing hard and putting on a great show. Come out on Saturdays at 8:30am, grab a spot on the sideline, and help us cheer on the kids as we make this a special season for these families.
Practices will continue on Thursday evenings at 5:30 PM. Please pray for our players, coaches, families, and volunteers as we use this season to encourage kids, build relationships with families, and point them toward Christ.

With Upward games happening on Saturday morning, we’re not doing our normal men’s and ladies breakfasts, but we want to encourage you to make a connection with someone from the church that you haven’t had the chance to connect with.
Annual Business Meeting
Next Sunday, October 11th at 6pm, we will gather for our Annual Business Meeting. This is an important opportunity for us to look together at the life and stewardship of Redeemer Baptist Church as we prepare for another year of ministry.
We will review our current financial picture, walk through the proposed 2027 budget, and talk about how our resources are being used to support the ministries and mission of the church. Just as importantly, this meeting gives us a chance to reflect on some of the ways we have seen God at work among us over the past year. Budgets and financial reports are not just numbers on a page; they tell part of the story of what we value, where we are serving, and how we are seeking to be faithful with what God has entrusted to us.
The Path of Citrus County
The Path is a Gospel Rescue Mission serving men, women, and families in our area. Their work goes beyond providing a safe place to sleep or a meal to eat. They seek to help people rebuild their lives through a Christ-centered environment, individualized support, life and job skills, recovery programs, and opportunities to develop the stability needed to move toward independent living. Christ is at the heart of their mission and their desire to see lives genuinely transformed.
The Path is celebrating 25 years of ministry this year, and they will mark that milestone with their Harvest of Hope Banquet and Celebration on Thursday, October 15th at 6:00 PM. A table for 8 has already been purchased and there are 4 spots left for anyone interested in going. You can learn more about the Path and this event at https://www.pathofcitrus.org/

We have much to be thankful for. So, beginning October 18th, we are going to spend six weeks in the Psalms building a theology of gratitude. Our new sermon series, Give Thanks: Six Psalms for a Grateful People, will help us consider not merely what we are thankful for, but why thanksgiving is such a fundamental part of the life of God’s people.

This year marks the 116th anniversary of our church. For more than a century, generations of believers have gathered here to sing, pray, hear the Word, baptize new believers, raise children, send missionaries, care for neighbors, and proclaim the same good news of Jesus Christ. Buildings have changed. Pastors have come and gone. Families have arrived, grown, moved away, and sometimes returned. But through all of it, God has remained faithful. Please take a moment to share this flyer with someone to encourage them to join us.

Players, families, coaches, and friends are invited to join us for a special 5th Friday Family Fun Night as we celebrate a great season together! We’ll gather for a relaxed evening with a bonfire, games, and a chance to recognize our players with end-of-season awards.
This is a night for the whole family, so bring a snack to share, bring a chair, and plan to stay awhile. We are grateful for every player and family who has been part of the season, and we’d love to finish it by celebrating together. There might even be a chance to see the coaches compete one more time…
Give Faithfully

The Bridge

Last Sunday, Jesus took us into a field where the seed was sown the same everywhere, but the soils responded differently. Some hearts remained hard, some received the Word quickly but without roots, some allowed other loves to choke it out, and some received it deeply enough that it eventually produced a harvest. The question was “What is the Word doing in you?”
This week, Jesus stays in the field, but the question shifts. Suppose the Word really has taken root. Suppose we are listening, trusting, and trying to follow the King. What do we do when we still can’t see very much happening?
Jesus tells us that the kingdom of God is like seed buried beneath the soil. The farmer scatters it, goes home, sleeps, wakes up, and somehow the seed grows. Jesus says, “He knows not how.” That may be one of the most comforting descriptions of faith in the Bible. We are not responsible for making the kingdom grow. We are responsible for receiving the light God has given, obeying what He has said, sowing faithfully, and trusting Him with everything happening beneath the surface.
That is harder than it sounds. We like visible results. We want to know that the prayer is working, that our children are growing, that the gospel conversation mattered, that our own slow sanctification is going somewhere, that the church is making a difference. We are tempted to keep digging up the seed just to check on it. But Jesus reminds us that hidden does not mean inactive. A seed can be very much alive while the ground above it still looks empty.
Faith learns to live between planting and harvest. We sow, we trust, we wait, and sometimes, by the grace of God, we even learn to sleep.

Sunday Morning Bible Study and Worship
Sundays at 9:30am is our Bible Study hour. From children to adults, each class is focused on helping us grow in understanding of God’s word and encouraging one another to live out our faith.
Then at 10:45am, we come together for corporate worship as one body. Our aim is simple: to humble ourselves before the throne of Jesus our King and to joyfully worship Him side by side as families. Kids and adults all share in this time as we sit under the same truth and fix our eyes on Christ together. Check out this playlist of some of the music that we will sing together in worship.
Breaking Bread Groups
Throughout the week, we gather in homes to discuss God’s Word and to pray for each other as we do life together. We currently have groups that meet on Sunday afternoons, as well as Tuesday and Thursday nights. If you are interested in joining or starting a group, please talk to someone in leadership.
Fourth Watch – Fridays – 0400

Every Friday morning at 4 AM, men gather for Fourth Watch, a time to seek the Lord before the noise and responsibilities of the day begin.
There’s no breakfast, no entertainment, and no elaborate program. We’ll open the Bible, talk honestly, and spend serious time in prayer for four things. For the Lord’s guidance, for our own hearts, for one another, and for our families. Bring your Bible. Come looking for the Lord.
Fourth Watch is open not only to the men of Redeemer, but to Christian men throughout our community who want brothers who will encourage them, challenge them, and help them keep watch over the things God has entrusted to them.
At Redeemer Baptist Church our mission is to Glorify Jesus by Growing in Holiness and Loving Generously. Please leave a quick Google review and like or follow us on social media. It’s a small thing that helps more people in our community find us.
