Last Friday, I made the mistake of writing the words, “This is a relatively quiet week.” I should know better by now. Since then, my father-in-law has suffered a heart attack, and our daughter is getting married this weekend. So much for easing quietly back into the routine!

Life has a way of doing that. We make our plans, organize our calendars, and convince ourselves that we have everything nicely under control. Then a single phone call can rearrange the week. Sometimes it is frightening news. Sometimes it is joyful news. Sometimes, you get both at once.

I think the Lord uses weeks like this to keep us honest and humble. We make our plans, and we should make them wisely, but we are never really in control. “The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps” (Proverbs 16:9). That is not meant to make us anxious. It is meant to remind us that the One who actually holds tomorrow is good, faithful, and already there.

So, our family would certainly appreciate your prayers this week. Pray especially for Teresa’s dad as he recovers, and pray for our daughter Zoe and her soon-to-be husband Ty as they begin this new chapter of their lives together. And perhaps pray that I will learn my lesson before I ever publicly declare another week “quiet.”

Family Fun Night – Friday, July 31

Speaking of things actually on the calendar, Family Fun Night is next Friday, July 31 at 6:00pm!

Bring the whole family and come enjoy an easy evening together with games, fellowship, and plenty of fun for all ages. This is not meant to be complicated. It is simply an opportunity to spend time together, laugh together, and enjoy being a church family.

We will also use part of the evening to help prepare for our Back to School Bash by packing backpacks with school supplies. So come ready to have some fun and help us bless our neighbors at the same time.

Help Us Fill 50 Backpacks!

The back-to-school sales are in full swing, which means this is the perfect time to help us stock up on school supplies.

We already have 50 backpacks ready to give away at our Back to School Bash on Saturday, August 8, but we do not want to hand local families an empty backpack. We would love to fill each one with as many useful supplies as we can.

So while you are at Walmart, Dollar General, or wherever you happen to spot those piles of back-to-school bargains, grab a few extras for the church. Pencils, pens, crayons, colored pencils, notebooks, composition books, folders, notebook paper, glue sticks, scissors, pencil pouches, erasers, and other basic classroom supplies can all be put to good use.

You do not have to fill a backpack yourself. Just bring what you can. A couple of packs of pencils here and a stack of notebooks there will add up quickly when the whole church joins together.

Let’s take advantage of the sales, fill all 50 backpacks until they are bursting, and use this opportunity to love generously and serve families in our community as they begin a new school year.

Food Pantry Needs

Our food pantry cupboards are beginning to look a little bare, and we would love your help restocking them. The pantry allows us to respond when families in our church and community find themselves facing an unexpected need.

While you are at the grocery store, or placing your next pickup/delivery order, please consider adding a few extra shelf-stable items. Canned vegetables, soups, pasta, rice, cereal, peanut butter, canned meat, boxed meals, and other basic staples are always helpful.

Even one or two additional items can make a meaningful difference when we all give together. Thank you for helping us keep the pantry ready to serve our neighbors with practical care and the love of Christ.

Back to School Bash – Saturday, August 8th – 9am-Noon

School is almost here, and we are sending summer out with a splash!

Join us on August 8 from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM for a huge Back to School Bash packed with fun for the whole family!

We’ll have a FOAM PARTY, free hot dogs, chips and drinks, 50 backpacks filled with school supplies to give away, and Flag Football evaluations and registrations for anyone interested in the upcoming season.

Bring the kids. Bring the neighbors. Invite a friend. Come ready to get wet, eat well, laugh a lot, and help us celebrate the beginning of a brand-new school year! Let’s bless our local families and give our kids a great start to the school year!

Upward Flag Football

We’re excited to be launching Upward Flag Football this fall as a way to serve and connect with families in our community.

  • Our league is open to boys and girls K5 – 5th grade.
  • The cost is $100 per child
  • More than one child? Save an extra $10 on additional registrations.
  • Deadline for registration is 8/22/2026.

Pray that this becomes not just a sports league, but a bridge for relationships and gospel conversations.

A Simple Way to Give Faithfully

Giving is one of the ways we worship the Lord, trust His provision, and support the ministry He has entrusted to our church. Of course, Sunday mornings can be full. Between conversations, children, serving, singing, listening, and getting out the door, it is easy for even good intentions to get crowded out. Through our online giving page, you can give a one-time gift or set up recurring monthly giving. This helps make generosity a steady and prayerful rhythm. Thank you for giving faithfully, generously, and joyfully as we seek to glorify Christ, cultivate holiness, and love generously together.

The Bridge

Last Sunday, we watched holiness enter the room. Jesus stepped into the synagogue at Capernaum, taught with an authority no one had heard before, and confronted the unclean spirit hiding in plain sight. His holiness was not distant or fragile. It entered the darkness, exposed it, commanded it, and set a captive man free.

This week, as soon as the service is over, he goes home with Simon and Andrew. There, holiness enters an ordinary house and meets an ordinary human need. Simon’s mother-in-law is sick with a fever. Jesus takes her by the hand and lifts her up. By evening, the whole town is gathered at the door, bringing the sick and the oppressed to him.

Then Mark is going to show us something else. After a long day of teaching, healing, and ministering to crowds, Jesus rises early, while it is still dark, and goes away to a solitary place to pray. Jesus enters the synagogue with authority. He enters the home with compassion. Then he withdraws into the presence of his Father in prayer.

This week, as we continue through Mark 1:29–39, we will see that the holiness of Jesus is not merely power on display. It is a life perfectly ordered toward the Father and poured out in love for others. Jesus serves, heals, teaches, and gives himself freely, but he never allows the demands of the crowd to replace communion with God or distract him from the mission he was sent to accomplish.

Weekly Life Together

Wednesday Night Dinner, Kids, and Prayer

Join us each Wednesday evening as we gather for a shared family meal and time together.

Sunday Morning Bible Study and Worship

Sundays at 9:30am is our Bible Study hour. From children to adults, each class is focused on helping us grow in understanding of God’s word and encouraging one another to live out our faith.

Then at 10:45am, we come together for corporate worship as one body. Our aim is simple: to humble ourselves before the throne of Jesus our King and to joyfully worship Him side by side as families. Kids and adults all share in this time as we sit under the same truth and fix our eyes on Christ together.

Breaking Bread Groups

Throughout the week, we gather in homes to discuss God’s Word and to pray for each other as we do life together. We currently have groups that meet on Sunday afternoons, as well as Tuesday and Thursday nights. If you are interested in joining or starting a group, please talk to someone in leadership.
